I just bought an '84 Massey 210-4 which is similar or identical to an Allis Chalmers 5020 or Hinomoto 232. I would like to add a loader in the next year or so, does anyone know of a manufacturer that has a model with mounting kit? If I have to go custom, which model would be best to start with?

I am a low-usage owner, so light duty is fine - snow, mulch and loose soil only.

I had a B6000 which is very similar to your 5100, and I agree that the BX models sit very low for 'woods' work. What is your budget? I never buy anything new, and I would recommend going with an older low hours kubota deere or ford/NH even if it doesnt have power steering. I have never had power steering, but I am sure it is nice.....but you can live without it for sure. It takes a little searching to find a nice clean used compact, but they are out there.

This is what I have always expected regarding loaders for a 6000 - an external pump with an additional reservoir. I actually have the sales brochure for the factory loader in 78, and I thought I remember seeing an added unit off the side of the engine. Either way, I dont know if i ever would go the loader route with my 6000 - it seems i could sell it and put the loader money towards a different tractor with loader installed.

$The reversing of blades was my first idea. I looked at the King Kutters at my local store, and the blades would need some redesigning if I remeber right. I think they were curved to create some lift, and there was a bend near the center which would prevent me from simply turning them around. Perhaps a metal shop could reverse the bend???? Would that greatly reduce the strength? The blades are shaped like: -\_$ PTO Reverser for B6000

I am puzzled by the BX1500. I think it will be a fine little tractor, but it doesnt seem cheap enough to me. There are several dealers in my area, and Carver Equipment on the web, who sell BX1800s for around $8000. I have even seen prices as low as $7200 for a new 1800. If it were me, I would go for the 1800/54 or 60" deck for a small premium over the 1500. Conversly, if I really didnt need the compact tractor functionality, the kubota G1860 is a fantastic value with 18hp diesel, 54" deck, power steering and foot hydro for something less than $6000 (real price, not list).

Is BX1500 the right choice

This has become a fun string for an antique bota owner. First, I would love to buy the mentioned 36" brush hog, but I dont want to give up my tiller. Plus I live in northern NY...as for the tiller, you will have a hard time finding one for sale. I wouldnt advise running a tiller backwards - they are chain driven, and the spring loaded tensioner will not last long if pushed the wrong direction. As for the bota with the overheating problem, these machines use the thermo-syphon cooling system - no water pump. Be very careful that the antifreeze/water mix is correct. Check manual, I dont remember. It is a very simple system, so if the fluid is fresh and correct, and you are overheating - there is blockage somewhere. My dust screen gets coated when mowing with no problems. Hope I have helped. I forgot to look up the displacement - it is not on the plate anyhow; I think the official name of the engine is ZL60. I would post pics but I dont have a website.

I am about to do the exact same thing on my B6000 - these older kubotas are so narrow they are not well suited to any uneven ground. I also have come very close to rolling, but I dont have a FEL so it doesnt happen as often. I am worried about the CCL damaging the rims, though.

I have a B6000E which is the predecessor to the B6200. I love my tractor, but for moving around dirt, it is kind of light. You should go to tractortips.com and compare the weight of the 6200 to the 7500. I find myself spinning tires alot when trying to move serious fill with my back blade. Certainly a stout machine, though.

I have a late '70s B6000E in mint condition, also with the 4' tiller and a 4' woods belly mower. My tractor is only 2WD, but i have been very pleased with it, especially as a garden tilling machine. I also use a 5' rear blade for dirt and snow with reasonable results - the 4WD will do even better. To get an idea of price, take some time and search machinefinder.com - there are always a few 6100's for sale, and pics of most machines so you can compare condition. I have seen early 80s 6100 4WD with mower only for approximately $4000 - if that helps at all. If you buy it I think you will enjoy the little tractor.

Anyone use a Swisher (or other) tow behind brush mower? (These are the units that have a stand alone gas engine - often towed by ATVs)

Looking for any advice on this option - my little kubota does not have the power or weight to lift a large brush hog
